Tornado sportscars were formed in 1984 by the Father and Son team of Alan and Andy Sheldon and were based on a modern Industrial Estate in Worcestershire where the company still operates from today. The company objective was to produce high quality self-assembly component form vehicles which could be completed using only simple hand tools by the enthusiast at home. The introduction model was the Tornado M6 GT which was inspired by Bruce McLaren's road car project from 1969. The original car was an M6 Can-Am race car with an enclosed cockpit for the driver and was intended for everyday road car use. Sadly, Bruce was killed and the project was forgotten about until the late 90's when McLaren did finally introduce a road car.

This Tornado M6 GT, registered on 25th June 1990, was factory built to a high standard and is presented in the traditional Papaya Orange, utilising the same space frame chassis as seen in the well-respected Tornado GT40. Subject to a fresh repaint, this example presents fantastically and boasts a V8 Rover powerplant stroked to 3.9 litres and we are informed providing circa 250bhp whilst weighing just 850kg. In a nod to the Cam-Am Race Series, it boasts a carbon fibre front splitter and carbon fibre taillight panel with McLaren F1 Rear lights. It sits on 14-inch front, 15-inch rear period correct revolution alloy wheels with BF Goodrich tyres. With modified uni transmission, adjustable coil-overs front and rear and a custom-made exhaust with race manifold. The interior has black leather seats and race hardware. This really does sound as good as it looks, the bottom is as flat as an F1 car which aids downforce and in the Papaya colourway this really does turn heads on and off the track. A rare example with only two road legal cars produced by Tornado and only a handful of later evocations exist.….you will not find another like this! Consigned by Mathew Priddy
