Steve Tansy was a custom car and hot-rod builder who spent nearly 40 years re-modelling famous cars like the Batmobile, Ecto-1 used in Ghostbusters, and the Black Beauty used in The Green Hornet. Tansy then promoted them at car shows across the U.S. alongside the very stars that made them (the cars) famous. He competed in the NHRA Funny Car division from 1971 - 75. He was the 1975 "Show Car Producer of the Year" for the International Show Car Association and Hot Rod Magazine presented him with the "Top Ten" street rod award for his state-of-the-art 1915 Centre Door "T" in 1979. Steve received three Lifetime Achievement awards from Championship Auto Shows, Chattanooga Auto Shows and CCR (Classic Car Revival).
Here we have one of Tansy's well known and highly photographed custom cars, The Hustler. The pool table itself is thought to be circa 75 years old. This sits above the V8 Hemi engine, which is currently not running, this is mated to an automatic gearbox. The exhaust pipes exit the engine via the side of the pool table, four each side. The unique design of this incredible looking 'car' is quite remarkable. The pool cues are neatly tucked into the side bodywork, the wheel caps are made to look like pool balls, there are sunken pool balls to the front of the bodywork and steering is via a rather unorthodox 'V' shaped handle, with the obligatory pool ball in the centre. The pool table itself is in fairly good condition, although the pockets could do with some time and attention. Having formed part of a private collection in recent years, the vendor has decided to part with The Hustler due to lack of storage. To state the obvious, where would you find another one?
