1934 ROLLS-ROYCE 20/25 4 LIGHT SPORTS SALOON PARK WARD - £49,000
1934 Rolls-Royce 20/25 Sports Saloon by Park Ward. First registered on 4th June 1934 to Major John Foster of Skelton Halll, near York. The chassis cost £,1050 and came off test on May 2nd 1934, going to Park Ward on the 3rd to have its 4-light Sports Saloon body fitted at a further cost of £505. On November 29th 1940 the car was sold to the Hon. R James of Richmond, North Yorkshire. In September 1954 the car was purchased by Mr T Smith, also of Richmond. A new log book was issued in 1958 in the name of Barrow Quarries Limited, Barrow in Furness, a subsidiary to Barrow Haematie Steel Co. Ltd. The next owner came in July 1959 when the car was in the care of Mr Eric Meachin of Hanley, Stoke-on -Tent, during whose tenure the car was subject to a top end engine overhaul at Rolls-Royce specialists’ workshop, Ristes Motors. At the end of 1962 the car was in the possession of author and well-known Rolls-Royce aficionado, David Scott-Moncrieff ‘Purveyor of horseless carriages to the nobility and gentry since 1927’. In the early 1960’s the car was shipped to Mr C T Brown in Louisiana, USA. The car remained in the Brown family until August 1998 when it was returned to the UK. The following year it was purchased by its last private owner, Mr Hick of York. During Mr Hick’s long proprietorship, the car was lovingly maintained with some well-earned renovations being undertaken. An impressive history file accompanies the car which details his attentive custodianship. Today, the car is presented in beautiful condition throughout, the classic Maroon and Black coachwork suites the car extremely well whilst inside the soft brown leather has the wonderful patina that can only be achieved by careful conservation. The polished woodwork is in perfect order as is the unmarked wool cloth headlining and silk blind. The underside of the car is equally impressive and has clearly received the same level of care as the ‘seen’ surfaces. On the road, this 20/25 performs correctly in all respects, aided by the relatively small 4 light Sports Saloon coachwork and the lack of a centre division meaning both front seats a fully adjustable making for a very pleasurable driving experience.
