RENAULT CLIO SPORT V6 - £Auction

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2025 on Saturday the 8th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. A spin-off from the Clio Trophy race series and first previewed at the Paris Motor Show in 1998, the Clio V6 230 was in many ways the spiritual successor to the mid-engined 5 Turbo. Launched in 2001, the wide-hipped, mid-engined ‘baby supercar' was broadly based on the Clio Mk2 but the V6 variant actually shared very little with its standard counterpart. Where the rear seats would normally be, nestled a tweaked version of the proven and unstressed 3-litre, 24v, V6 unit from the Laguna saloon offering access to 227bhp (230PS) fed to the rear wheels and enabling 0-60 in 6.2 seconds and 146mph, not for the faint-hearted in such a diminutive ‘rocket ship’. The Phase 1 cars were assembled by hand at the Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) workshops in Uddevalla in Sweden, using parts shipped from France, producing just 1,513 examples between 2001 and 2003.   The example offered here is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive car, build number #0349, finished in Iceberg Silver and first registered on 18th March 2002. At the time of viewing, the indicated mileage was 21,309, a figure supported by eight entries in the service book and its online MOT history dating back to 2005. It had been enjoyed by three former keepers prior to its purchase by our vendor in 2007 and has formed part of his private collection ever since. 18 years of current ownership.   Throughout this period, the car has been garage-kept, used sparingly, and exercised primarily on fine days for trips to local classic car shows, where, according to our vendor, it has always been much admired. In a light-hearted touch, the brake calipers have been adorned with 'Jaguar' decals for a bit of car show humour.   The car’s history file includes the service record which displays eight entries - the most recent in 2023, MOT history online back to 2005 and the current MOT Certificate valid until August 2026 (no advisories), and it's original CD-player will accompany the car.   Presented in its original Phase 1 specification, this Clio V6 retains the character and presence that made the model such a sensation when new. With its flared arches, purposeful stance, and mid-mounted 3-litre V6 delivering 227bhp through a 6-speed manual gearbox, it remains as dramatic and exciting as it was at launch. These early cars are notably more scarce than the later Phase 2 versions, and their raw, uncompromising nature has made them particularly appealing to collectors who value originality and rarity.   Few modern classics capture the imagination quite like the RenaultSport Clio V6 and this impressive, low-mileage example would sit proudly within any collection of modern performance icons or equally serve as a thrilling weekend companion for those brave enough to sample its unique, mid-engined charms.
