PORSCHE 911T (2.2-LITRE) - £Auction

The original Porsche 911 was introduced in Autumn 1963 and manufactured until 1989. It was succeeded by a modified version, internally referred to as Porsche 964, but still sold as Porsche 911, as are current models. Mechanically, the 911 was notable for being rear-engined and air-cooled and, from its inception, the 911 was modified both by private teams and the factory itself for racing, rallying and other types of competition. The original 911 series is often cited as the most successful competition car ever, especially when its variations are included; namely the powerful 911-derived 935 which won the 24 Hours du Mans and other major sports cars races outright. For 1970 the engines of all 911s were increased to 2,195 cc. Power outputs were uprated to 123 bhp in the 911T and the 912 was discontinued, with the 914 taking its place as Porsche's entry model.

Our vendor purchased this UK supplied RHD, matching numbers example around 14 years ago, it had spent a decade in storage and was in need of some restoration work, but was almost totally complete, only missing the spare wheel and one hub cap. Our vendor was perfectly suited to doing the work, having over 40 years experience restoring both Porsche's and classic Volkswagen's. The body was completely stripped to bare metal and any rust was attended to, but our vendor noted it wasn't as bad as it could have been, a lot of the corrosion was more external panels, opposed to the inner structure of the car, it had been stored fairly well. The structural work consisted of a new roof clip, new rear quarters, new fronts wings, new passenger door skin, new inner and outer sills, kidney bowls, floor pans, heel panel, fuel tank support panel (inner and outer) front inner wing repair panels and new offside battery box (photos of all available). The car was then professionally painted to a very good standard in its original Light Ivory 1111. The interior is mostly original with the front seats having been re-covered in OEM vinyl with corduroy centres and new carpets have also been fitted.

Additionally, the car has had new wheel bearings front and rear, new front and rear shocks, new front upper shock supports, new rear trailing arm bushes, new front and rear discs, new exhaust, new heat exchangers, new heat exchanger control boxes, new drive shafts and UJs, new points, plugs, rotor arm, distributor cap, leads, oil filter and oil, new air filter, new oil tubes, new rear oil seal, new master cylinder, hard lines and flexi pipes, new fuel tank and oil tank , new torsion springs, arms and bushings, new three-piece clutch kit, new clutch activating arm, pivot bolt and retention spring, new front and rear light clusters (in steel) with new lenses (the headlights are original) and new tyres all round.

This is a very well sorted example, ready to be enjoyed as it is, still with some nice original patina in places but the knowledge that a very thorough restoration has taken place by a highly knowledgeable enthusiast owner and happily it hasn't been over restored inside, so it still has plenty of charm. Supplied to auction fresh from a circa £3,500 service and upgrade to newer model chain tensioners, and with a V5C registration document, MoT test certificate valid until November 2026, photographic records of the restoration and invoices for over £40,000 of parts alone, this 911T looks like fantastic value.
