PORSCHE 911SC TARGA - £Auction
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2025 on Saturday the 8th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. Please note this lot description is subject to vendor approval and therefore may be amended. In 1978, Porsche introduced their latest development of the 911, christened the 911 SC, with the 'SC' standing for Super Carrera. Powered by a 3-litre, six-cylinder engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel-injection and a 5-speed 915 manual transmission, power output initially was 180bhp, subsequently 188bhp and finally, in 1981, it was increased to a heady 204bhp. The SC Targa was also launched in the same year and by the end of production in 1983, some 15,682 Targas had been delivered worldwide. The wonderful example we present here is well known to us, having sold it to a fastidious enthusiast in 2018, and then again more recently, to one of our clients for whom it was to be a summer present for his wife. They have enjoyed the car occasionally for local shows during the summer, but in truth it's now surplus to their needs and so it is being made available once more. In 2018, it was meticulously restored at considerable cost, with new sills, kidney bowls, jacking points, front wings and driver’s door by Norfolk Premier Coachworks, as well as an extensive engine rebuild by Redtech Engineering at a cost of over £10,000. Fitted with a 'Whale Tail', air dam and Fuchs alloys, it has real presence. Our buyer in 2018 had wanted to acquire the very best Porsche of its type at the time and bid enthusiastically to do so but as is often the case, he then set about making it even better with the emphasis on presenting the car as close as possible to its original specification. The suspension was updated, the wheels and tyres replaced, even the teardrop mirrors fitted at the time of purchase have been replaced by the original-style paddle type. Most noticeable however, is the interior which has been fully retrimmed in the correct 'Pasha' style with tan leather and brown and beige Pasha velour by ProtoTrim. The experienced team at Export 56 carried out all of the recent servicing and restoration work and investments with them over the years are as follows; 2019 - £4,300, 2020 - £1,600, 2021 - £3,200, 2022 - .£8,000, 2024 - £2,900. The fascinating history file contains receipts totalling over £30,000 for work over the years and in addition the car is supplied with its Porsche CoA, MOTs and Tax Discs going back to 1994, its current V5C, the original book pack and service records, a photographic record of the restoration, and much more. With Porsche classics in most guises having stood up well to the vagaries of the market in recent times, we would not be surprised at all to see this wonderful example create another flurry of bidding within our saleroom.
