This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at Silverstone Festival 2025 - Collectors Cars on Saturday the 23rd of August, The Wing, Silverstone Circuit, NN12 8TN. Launched in 1985, the 300SL was the ultimate incarnation of the updated R107 and was available for only four years, with just 13,443 ever built globally, making them a rarity in right-hand drive. It was powered by a 2,962cc straight-six engine that produced 185bhp at 5,700rpm and 188lb/ft of torque at 4,400rpm, sufficient output to endow this open top Mercedes with rapid acceleration and a top speed of 130mph. This beautifully presented 300 SL was ordered new by a Mr B Nicholls in 1989 from the supplying dealer, Carols of Wolverhampton. The specification was straightforward and included Smoke Silver (702) with Mushroom Cream MB Tex (175), rear seating, 4-speed automatic transmission with Sport/Economy modes, ABS,15-hole alloy wheels, central-locking, electric windows, heat-insulating green glass, graduated tinted windscreen, front fog lamps, power steering, factory hardtop with heated rear screen and heated washer jets and door mirror lenses. He didn't keep it for long, selling it in late 1990 to Mr S Evans for £38,950 (sales sheet in the history file). He enjoyed it for a few years until it was not being used regularly and the decision was made to put it in storage where it remained until January 2009 when, with a mileage of 32,000, the car was purchased by Mr A Humphrey to join his a private Collection. In 2014, he sold it to a Mr J Potts who maintained the car with a local specialist in Yorkshire. A couple of years later, in 2016, it became the property of its fourth proud owner, a Mr J Docherty with 36,000 miles indicated who continued the car's record of diligent servicing with Messrs TJ O Neil, a local Mercedes independent servicing agent in Glasgow.  Back from Yorkshire and 'Bonny Scotland' the car has now been fully recommissioned by the SL Shop to their known high standards, with details of the work carried out in the service folder. The service book and manuals are present, as are the spare keys, roof handles and pleasingly, the original Tax Disc from Carols. This is a lovely example of the six-cylinder SL, in a great colour, with known history and finally a 'tick' from the SL Shop.
