LOTUS ELITE - £50,000

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 25th September on Thursday the 25th of September. Background:First unveiled in 1957, the Lotus Elite Mk14 marked a turning point in sports car design. It was the first production car to feature a fibreglass monocoque chassis, combining cutting-edge lightweight engineering with elegant aerodynamics shaped by Frank Costin. Powered by a 1,216cc Coventry Climax engine and weighing just 600kg, the Elite excelled in international GT racing, achieving notable class victories at Le Mans, the Nürburgring and beyond. The Car:Built in 1961, this rare and authentic Super 95 variant retains its original chassis (EB-1947) and correct-spec Coventry Climax FWE engine. Originally supplied by Western Motors of Edinburgh, the car has long been associated with historic motorsport and was previously sold by the vendor a decade ago. It has since remained in knowledgeable and experienced hands, actively campaigned across both the UK and mainland Europe. Now returning to the market, the Elite is offered in highly competitive condition with a current FIA Historic Technical Passport (Form GB10101), identifying it as a Competition GT Car within Period E (1947–1961), FIA Class: GTS4. The identity number is 38389 and the papers remain valid until the end of 2025. It is eligible for a host of leading historic events including the FIA Pre-63 GT Series, Peter Auto’s Sixties’ Endurance, Le Mans Classic (GTS4), Goodwood Revival (by invitation), Masters Gentlemen Drivers, Equipe Pre-63, HSCC Historic GT and the Iberian Historic Endurance. Recent preparation includes a full gearbox rebuild using correct ZF parts, along with the installation of new FIA-compliant belts and fire extinguisher system. The car has also benefited from a routine service and is described as ready to race. Fitted with twin SU carburettors, the correct lightweight chassis and its trademark balanced handling characteristics, the Elite offers both mechanical authenticity and competitive potential. Presented in excellent cosmetic and mechanical order, it is a strong candidate for top-level historic GT grids and would make a highly desirable addition to any serious motorsport collection.
