Nice old 1977 Land Rover Series 3 LWB Truck Cab. Been in my custody since Dec 2007 when I bought it from a chap who had spent seven months restoring it. At that time the odometer read 49000 (suspect 100,000 needs to be added to that) and now reads 58,399. I can vouch that it has only covered 9399 in my 18 years of ownership – it used to be taken for the occasional mud-plugging trips over Salisbury Plain with the kids, then mostly visits to the local Recycling Centre, and even more trips to the local pub! Everything works – except the heater, thermostat and water temp guage (I broke the electrical contact off the sensor the other day and because it always runs a little under normal operating temperature due to the thermostat being stuck open, haven’t bothered to replace it). It has rear bench seats with seat belts, so can take driver plus 8 passengers (although the cab centre seat is not fitted with a belt).Fitted with a tow bar (no electrics). It’s a bit grubby at the moment, although there’s more lichen than paint on the body, so it doesn’t look too different when washed! There’s lots of stuff you could do to easily smarten it up and a more concerted project would lead to a decent profit on resale. I’m a little torn between selling as is or doing this work, but I’ve probably got a few too many things going at the moment, and the driveway is filling up. (The board and plastic underneath in the photos is there from when I serviced it last week). Of course, being an historic vehicle’ there’s no road tax to pay, no MoT requirement, and insurance us very inexpensive. It’s a hoot to drive – especially when the cab and windows are removed for ‘top-down’ Summer motoring, and never fails to put a smile on my face.
