LAND ROVER SERIES II SWB - £25,000
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 28th August on Thursday the 28th of August. Background: Launched in 1961, the Series IIA represents one of the most iconic eras in Land Rover history. Revered for its rugged simplicity and enduring charm, it became a favourite among farmers, explorers and armed forces worldwide. With its timeless design and mechanical honesty, the Series IIA remains a British motoring icon and a practical classic in equal measure. The Vehicle: Originally supplied new in Leicestershire, this 1962 example has been the subject of a full professional nut-and-bolt restoration to original specification, making use of a vast number of original components alongside correct new old stock parts where required. It is finished in its original colour, Pastel Green, confirmed by a Land Rover Heritage Certificate and paired with matching wheels and a bespoke two-part mohair soft top. A new galvanised chassis and refurbished bulkhead form the foundation of a detailed and high-quality rebuild. Bespoke removable galvanised posts have been added to allow proper anchorage for period seat belts, providing a discreet and practical safety enhancement. The original engine has been fully rebuilt, including an unleaded cylinder head conversion with new valves and seats. The gearbox and Fairey overdrive have both been refurbished. A new wiring loom has been installed, and the vehicle benefits from rebuilt suspension, steering box and associated components. Further mechanical work includes a full brake overhaul and rebuilt axles. New lighting has been fitted all round, while the period-correct Smiths circular heater and twin wiper motors have been retained. A period radio and screen wash system have been fitted, and the interior is completed with new elephant hide-style grey front seats. All five tyres are new and correct. The Land Rover starts easily thanks to electronic ignition and runs smoothly and quietly. Gear changes are clean, four-wheel drive and low range engage correctly, and the steering is direct and free from wander. The bodywork is immaculate, with straight panels, consistent shut lines and a high-quality finish. All windows function properly with good channels. The load area is exceptionally clean, showing no signs of heavy use, and is presented with a rubber mat. The engine bay is similarly well detailed. The vehicle has always been kept in dry storage and has only covered a handful of fair-weather miles since the restoration. Prior to sale, the current sun visors, rope stickers on the rear tailgate and fire extinguisher will all be removed to return the car to its clean, original aesthetic. Documentation includes a Land Rover Heritage Certificate, photographic record of the restoration, relevant parts and service receipts, period literature and previous registration documents accompany the vehicle.
