LAMBORGHINI ESPADA SIII - £25,000

The 1967 Geneva Motor Show saw the unveiling of the sensational Lamborghini Marzal, a concept car which was seen as an approach to a four-seat Lamborghini, and a forerunner for the successful distinct Espada. Named after a Matador's sword, the Espada was styled along lines similar to those of the concept Marzal but carried a 4.0 litre V12 up front, first seen in the 400GT and Islero. Introduced in January 1970, the Series II cars came with an extra 25bhp, 155mph top speed, an improved dashboard layout and the option of power-assisted steering. The dashboard was revised yet again in late 1972 for the Series III, which also incorporated power steering as standard, up-rated brakes, minor suspension improvements, and a restyled front grille. Espada production ceased in 1978 after 1,217 of these imposing cars had been built. Even today there are few cars that can match the on-road presence of the Espada.

Offered to sale here is the rare opportunity to acquire one of only approximately five right hand drive automatic gearbox Lamborghini Espada Series III cars built. Originally supplied in Fiello yellow with blue leather interior, the colour has changed several times over the years whilst the blue interior remains. Its first owner is believed to be Prince Najim who is thought to have purchased the car from Maltin Car Concessionaires on 15th April 1976 and who had the unusual for the time telephone installed, which is still retained! Having had the car repainted blue, the car found a new home with a Mr. Peter Solly and then to the journalist Martin Buckley of Classic and Sports Car magazine. Buckly spent £6,195.72 with the UK's premium Lamborghini restorer Colin Clarke in 2012 with the bulk of the bill covering having the brakes fixed including new master cylinder, overhauled calipers and the fabricating of new brake lines. The vendor purchased the car from Buckley in 2014 with the intention of bringing the car to the next level and showing it around the country. Sadly, the car has been left dormant in his heated garage since and as such the vendor has decided its time to let the car go. The car does run, although the head gaskets are believed to need replacing.

Supplied with a V5C registration document and file showing invoices and correspondence relating to the car. These wonderful 70s sports tourers offer Italian flare with that glorious Miura V12 soundtrack, but at a fraction of the price. Viewing is highly recommended of this great value classic.
