This one of only 123 produced DB5 Convertibles left the Newport Pagnell factory in January 1964 sporting its original colour scheme of Tudor Grey with matching factory hard top, black Connolly interior and black Duracol hood. First registered to Francis Egerton of Mallett & Son Ltd, high profile antiques dealer in New Bond Street, London who are still in business today! The car returned to Newport Pagnell on several occasions under Mr Egerton’s ownership for maintenance, according to factory records which also show its next owner as Mr Cyril Brown of Benham & Reeves Estate Agent in Hamstead, also still active! Mr Brown acquired the car around 1969 but by 1972 it had passed through dealer Antone of Mayfair to its next owner Mr C Bligh of Bedford Gardens London. Records show that Mr Bligh sold the car via agent Chris Manning to its next and long term owner Mr Levy of Queens Road, London. Mr Levy kept the DB5 Convertible for over 40 years, initially using it as an essential daily driver for his commute to work it eventually became a more pleasurable form of transport. Mr Levy kept his convertible well maintained and looked after throughout his long ownership with many upgrades including a full re-spray in 1987 and a 4.2 engine re-build in 2004. He chose mostly various Aston Martin specialists including Aston Martin Works, HWM, Oselli, Aston Engineering and Four Ashes to carry out this work for him, all of which he kept well documented in the history file. Mr Levy eventually parted with his much loved Aston in 2014 when he sold it to its current owner who decided to embark on a full nut and bolt restoration to concours standards. He entrusted this major restoration work to marque specialists Desmond J Smail Ltd who commenced work on the DB5 in 2015. This included chassis, sill and body fabrication by Bodylines, major engine re-build to 4.2 litre Cosworth spec, gearbox and axle re-builds, complete bare metal re-spray including the hard top in Coniston Sand, total re-trim of all seat & carpets, new black mohair hood, complete suspension re-build with Harvey Bailey components, braking system re-build, and fitment of EPAC power steering and electric cooling fans. This exacting restoration work was completed in 2018 and the DB5 has since been serviced and maintained exclusively by Desmond J Smail Ltd. This very rare example presents immaculately and comes with a very comprehensive history file; it is not just a car; it’s a piece of history waiting to be cherished by its next discerning owner!
